NewsPaul McCartney scores high chart entry in the USPaul McCartney's new album 'Memory Almost Full' has shot straight to Number Three in the US charts. The former Beatle's sixth album clocked up first week sales of 161,000, the biggest figure for any of his solo albums. McCartney's previous best was 121,000 copies for his 1997 album 'Flaming Pie' which gained his highest ever entry on the Billboard chart at Number Two. The sales, which are 75 per cent more than those for his previous album 'Chaos And Creation In The Backyard', come after the star recently signed a record deal with coffee chain Starbucks. According to the chain, the album clocked up the largest single day total by any in Starbucks' history when it was released on June 5, reports the Washington Post. Pete Doherty facing prison tomorrow? Pete Doherty is finally set to learn his fate tomorrow (September 4) after pleading guilty to drug charges in the summer. The Babyshambles frontman has had a turbulent few months which has already seen him make several appearances at West London Magistrate's Court, where judges will decide his future tomorrow. Firstly, the singer pleaded guilty to possessing Class A drugs after being stopped by police in Kensington High Street back on May 5. Having admitted the charges, on that occasion (August 7) the judge decided to postpone his sentencing for a month. Doherty was told he would be given a community or prison sentence, which would depend on his behaviour over August, and he was advised he would be sentenced on September 4. Unfortunately for Doherty he was forced to make an unexpected return to the Hammersmith court on August 27. Following Babyshambles' set at V Festival in Chelmsford, the singer was arrested again and police brought the singer to West London Magistrates Court, charging him with breaking his bail conditions. However Doherty was lucky as the officers failed to delivery him to the magistrates within 24 hours of his arrest he was freed on a technicality. A seperate drugs arrest arising from that occasion will not be dealt with until October 31, when Doherty must reappear at Bethnal Green police station. So tomorrow he finally learns his fate for his arrest in May - prison or the community service. NME.COM will be bringing you full coverage live from court so make sure you tune in tomorrow for the latest news. In the meantime have your say on whether Doherty will face prison or not using the My NME comments below. |
